Here is the long awaited “part two” of my office in progress, how far I’ve come, and what’s going on. OK, so maybe not “long awaited”, but here it is anyway. I’ve made tons of progress and I’m excited to show it off.

As for the 30-Day Vlog Challenge, today I realized it’s actually been a month since I did a video. What the hell? Really? I guess I’ve been engrossed in work and getting myself and my office in shape. This year I’ve really put myself into my business and am getting serious about doing things right. I’ve got the tools and I’ve got the talent. I’m not sure how much anyone cares about the business side of my business, but let me say this: If you’re never learned how to run a business, it’s not easy. This is my year to figure it out, make it work, and make Kristen Simental Photography legit. They don’t teach you this stuff in school and no one shows you a simple recipe for making money, paying taxes, doing marketing, and making it all work while still having time to buy groceries and make dinner. I don’t think there is a simple recipe. I really think it’s about finding out what works for you, learning the legal jive, and figuring out systems for everything. Everything needs a system.

Anyway, have a great Friday and an even greater weekend. I’d like to start doing a regular video every Friday, so keep an eye out for more.

I spent most of today organizing my house and did some work in my office. Because I looked like a scullery maid, I thought it best not to subject you to my sad looking appearance. Now, I say “I” – and I say so in the video – but this was actually a two person job. I had a lot of help from Regina Lark of A Clear Path and she deserves high praise.

Because what needs to get done is not confined to my office (it extends the entire house and basement) we’ve chosen to bring in the hired guns…and boy is it worth every penny. Not only because it saves time, but it’s motivated us to finally get out of boxes. We moved in just about a year ago and are still working things out around here. We’re also taking this opportunity to purge the clutter. Wish us luck!

So here’s my office in the early stages of it’s development. It’s definitely a work in progress. I can’t wait to show you all the finished product. It’s going to be awesome!

p.s. Today I learned that if you shoot vertical with the iPhone, you get a vertical video; which explains the slender framing. Who knew? Next time I shoot with the iPhone, I’ll know to shoot horizontal :)

*whew* I actually did two vlog posts in one day…to help me get back on track since I’m so far behind. If I’m feeling saucy, I might do it again today.

In this vlog I talk about one of the simple ways I keep myself organized and business minded during the week. I tend to think these ideas are boring, but maybe that’s because I’ve been doing them for so long. It’s a pretty simple idea, but maybe one you haven’t thought of? I hadn’t thought of it until I thought of it :)

On Friday I was feeling all gung ho to get vlog-stuff done, I was planning, taking notes, coming up with ideas and wham! I got sick. I was out of it all weekend long. In fact, I’m still recovering, but figure two days in bed is enough.

I did manage to shoot a vlog today, but it’s a “something is better than nothing” vlog – which means I’ll do better tomorrow. I’m also pretty sure I still look sick – oh, the magic of video…you can’t hide from it. Good thing its not HD. Only 22 of these left to go. Yikes.
